Her name is Jillian, but when she and Nate sing and play music together, they call themselves the Bergamot. This insanely talented duo has played music together since 2003 and performed in front of crowds all across the nation including their most recent show at Bud Light’s Port Paradise island.

Jillian lives for music, and it certainly helps when you have the pipes to belt out amazing melodies. Her passion shows when she’s singing her heart out on stage, whether its in front of a small group of people, or thousands. Having the opportunity to meet such a devoted individual was inspiring. She carries a smile that lights up the room and no one is a stranger when she’s around. Her idea of “live-simply” is evident by her warm presence and carefree lifestyle.

Music hasn’t always been an easy path to travel down, but doing anything else simply not an option. She believes she was born to play music and having just finished their new record, “Static Flowers,” The Bergamot is excited to play their music for the world. “If you’re not living on the edge, you’re taking up too much space,” is something Jillian said to me; and finding the edge in life is what we here at Sixell strive to do.

Jillian, for your relentless desire to play beautiful music and follow that ever-loving heart of yours, we have chosen you as Sixell-er of the Month for December. And in your own words, SHINE ON!

Check out more from the Bergamot here – http://www.facebook.com/TheBergamot

A famous football coach once was quoted, “Your talent determines what you can do. Your motivation determines how much you are willing to do. Your attitude determines how well you do it.” Some people are put on this earth to do something extraordinary and others have to work a bit harder to accomplish their goals…it’s that simple.

November’s Sixell-er of the Month, Tim Walsh knows both sides of this story. At the young age of 24, Walsh has already showed Brazil, Switzerland, Australia, and Liechtenstein his grace on the soccer field; but it wasn’t always easy.

Tim, who hails from the cold streets of Chicago grew up a healthy young chap; and although notorious for his near perfect renditions singing/rapping of Matisyahu track’s, it was the sport of soccer that stuck with him throughout his years. Anybody who knows Tim knows his priorities, and soccer has always been, and still is his #1 focus. It’s what his life was built on, what he loves to do. But in 2007 when a serious hip injury sidelined Tim for two and a half years in the peak of his college soccer career, it changed everything.

For most, this type of injury would signal the end; a type of injury that really questions your love for the game and commitment to your dream. Doctor’s were telling him a return to the field again was not a realistic option. Doubters, were suggesting Walsh hang-up the boots and focus on a different career path, it’s the safer option right?

Well luckily, Tim isn’t one to hang-up his dreams and take on plan B. After two long years of rehabilitation, foam rolls and shock therapy, and practices not yet excepted by western medicine, he returned to the field. His injury was healed. Tim stepped back on the pitch in late 2010, for his college squad University of Illinois Chicago, hoping for the best. He worked his way into the first team and began showing little glimmers of his pre- injury form.

Since his college soccer day’s ended at UIC, Tim has played with a club in Switzerland and Liechtenstein, into a few successful bouts overseas doing the thing he loves most, playing soccer. With many miles under his belt eventually his path lead to a contract with the Brisbane Wolves in Australia.

In September Walsh’s team, Brisbane Wolves FC won the Australian Veto League Grand final, ending his first professional season in Australia on a very high note. While in Brisbane Tim also teamed up with two Australian business men to work with a brand Zova while continuing his playing career. Zova is a program which combines too of his loves in life, music and soccer, and uses fresh beats rythmically to enhance soccer training and coaching.

To me, not many people epitomize Sixell the way Tim does, and will continue to do so. It’s easy to find a stable career doing something for someone else, but much harder to fight for doing something you love; and that is why Tim Walsh is November’s Sixell-er of the month.

If you are fan of fresh beats and soccer, go and check out Zova.

If we were to describe Kate Schlicher in 5 words, it would be fearless, hard working, risk taker. With her family’s presence in Encinitas and a background in print, Kate always had dreams of owning her own magazine. While working in San Francisco, it was when Kate visited her nephews in Encinitas that she found a market of inspiring North County kids doing extraordinary things in the community. We are recognizing Kate as Sixell-er of the month for taking a risk, quitting her job in San Francisco and making the move back to San Diego to follow her dreams.

With a background in print and a love for kids, Kate created the San Diego North County Kids magazine. This monthly publication is jam-packed with exciting stories that young families are looking for within the community, such as local events, fashion spreads and features on young kids who are making waves in North County.

This has been a huge project for Kate, and daily you can find her out in the community meeting with business owners, families and adding new, fun content to the magazine. All her efforts have paid off and you can see the latest issue here: http://www.sdnorthcountykids.com/current-issue/

Kate, we look forward to seeing North County Kids continue to grow and know that great things are headed your way. For all your efforts and passion for the community you daily inspire, we’d like to recognize you Sixell-er of the Month and the shirt of your choosing will be sent to you ASAP!

With the purpose of pushing his own limits and setting out to conquer his goals, Tyler Garewal has inspired many of those around him, along with us here at Sixell. Tyler recently defeated the Bulldog 50K Trail Run marathon (a little over 30 miles, but there’s nothing little about it) and has no intentions on stopping here. Because of his determination and his never-give-up attitude, we here at Sixell want to recognize you as September’s Sixell-er of the month. We’re excited to watch how far you can stretch your own limits and as a reminder to never let down, we’re sending the t-shirt of your choice your way!

Q & A: Tyler & 6L

Sixell: What drove you to set out and take on the challenge of the Bulldog 50K?

Tyler: I took on this 50K because I wanted to push myself farther than I ever thought I could. I just really started running consistently in January and really wanted to do a marathon. After I completed that, I needed more and that’s when I heard about the ultra distance races. I told myself I would do one someday and this 50K was my next step in a long list of races in my future. It more than challenges the body, it challenges the mind and soul of every runner out there; that’s what pulls me towards the longer races.

Sixell: So now that you have the Bulldog 50K under your belt, what’s next?

Tyler: Well next I have a few shorter races like Volkslaugh, and maybe a half or full marathon, but I really want to do this 50 mile race in January because I know it will push me harder and farther than anything I have ever done. This is what I live for…testing the limits of my own abilities, and then breaking them.

Sixell: Describe the best day you have ever had.

Tyler: To be honest, I don’t have just one day that stands out more than another because I have had so many great days. Most have been with family, my girlfriend Erica, my friends or mostly with baseball. As far as running goes, hands down it was running the 50K this weekend. Even though it was very mentally and physically exhausting, I have never felt so alive doing anything in my life. Pushing my body that far and completing what I set out to do was the greatest feeling I have ever had in my running career. Having Erica and the crew waiting at the finish line made it even that much better!

Sixell: How has Sixell impacted your life?

Tyler: Sixell has impacted my life in one huge way and that is all the friends that I have met through its ever growing family. I have met people who I know will be there for me through all the ups and the downs. Also it had taught me to enjoy life, no matter what it throws at you. I can honestly say that the Sixell family loves life more than any group of people I have ever met and I am lucky to be even a small part of it. Life’s all about the chances you take and about what you do with those chances. I say work hard and love even harder!

That bracelet has seen the view from the top of many mountain trails, swam in the salty oceans of the Pacific and has spent countless hours soaking in the California sun. Think you can’t do something? Test it. Never been to a certain place? Go there. Think you’re not capable of achieving something? Prove you can. Adventure is out there, but it requires you seeking it. Bring us along for the ride by sending us footage/stories of SIXELL in your own life, and we’ll do our best to highlight individuals living extraordinarily! Sometimes you’ve got to get lost in order to find yourself.

The SIXELL team had a few adventures this weekend including jumping out of a plane in celebration of Andy’s birthday and Matt riding his bicycle from San Diego to Huntington Beach. Get out there!

Proudly supporting adventure capitalists since 2011.
